Jon had his first taste of playing live busking and hitching his way around Europe in his twenties - a bit of a Sophisticated Beggar! Athens was a particularly good spot - apart from the 40 degree heat. As a design student at Leicester Poly, he saw Roy Harper play live and was absolutely gob-smacked. How can one man with an acoustic guitar make such a lot of noise?
He then spent several years living in rural France, surrounded by vineyards, recording new music and playing in a local band. After producing three albums of songs, he returned to the UK and became involved in the burgeoning internet industry, then in its infancy. A pioneering time of immense creativity - and going to every Roy gig he could get to.
Working as a designer and programmer by day he continued making music and playing at some of London's top venues including the renowned 12 Bar Club, which was an immense thrill after having seen Roy himself play there.
The bursting of the dot com bubble led to Jon taking a break from music and moving to the West Country, where he still lives with his wife and various cats.
In the past few years, Jon has resumed writing and recording and also playing live around the Wiltshire area. During Covid, Jon did a couple of lockdown gigs and then had the idea that maybe he could play Roy Harper songs to Roy Harper fans - using the magic of the internet. It went pretty well and eventually, a live gig was organised - and then a couple more...
Hopefully there are more to come!
